NORTHWEST ITALY
May 10 to 21 & September 20 to October 1, 2010

The region called Piemonte wraps around the Bay of Genoa and stretches north to the foothills of the Alps. It is a land rich in natural and manmade wonders: deep glacial lakes, snow-capped peaks, rolling vineyards planted with noble grapes, mountain valleys studded with castles, and a rugged seashore along which small and often inaccessible villages cling. While geographically separate from the main peninsula, the Piedmont was home to the powerful Savoy kings who briefly ruled the newly united Italy from their palace in Torino. And it is from Genoa, once a major port, that Christopher Columbus set sail for America.

This lesser known region of Italy offers travelers the pleasure of the unexpected.
